Local GPs join the Governing Body of NHS West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group

Two local GPs from West Leicestershire will be championing the needs of patients and GPs in the area, as a newly appointed Governing Body members for NHS West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Dr Nil Sanganee, 40, a GP in Ashby-de-le-Zouch and Dr. James Ogle, 32, a GP in Hinckley and Bosworth will be joining the Governing Body, who oversees the planning and purchasing of health services in West Leicestershire.

Health colleagues congratulate local GP on election success to a Royal College

NHS clinicians and colleagues in health from West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have congratulated Professor Mayur Lakhani for his election as the next President of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).

Mayur, who is the Chair of West Leicestershire CCG and a prominent local GP based in Sileby, will begin his new role as President for a two-year term from November 2017 until November 2019

West Leicestershire CCG lends support to National Care Home Open Day

National Care Home Day is being held on Friday, 16 June 2017. This a UK wide initiative where care homes open their doors to their local people to help create lasting links between the care home residents and their local communities.

The theme for this year is “Friendship” and focuses on joining together for a Big Lunch. It aims to get as many people as possible to share lunch together in an act of friendship that will encourage communities to connect and help to prevent isolation amongst those who may be living alone.

My Adult - Still My Child supporting parents

West Leicestershire CCG is proud to support the My Adult - Still My Child website - a website which is designed to for parents who have a child who has legally become an adult, but still needs support and may not have the ability under the Mental Capacity Act to make decisions on their medical treatment. It is aimed at those new to making Best Interest Decisions and especially those caring for a young person in transition to adult services. Packed with Frequently Asked Questions and other support for parents, it's a valuable resource for parents/carer and professionals

New walking groups for Loughborough residents

12th June 2017

Bridge Street Medical Practice PPG have started a walking group. The walks will run every fortnight on a Thursday morning starting at 10:30 am (arrive by 10:15am) and will be 1.5 -2.5 miles long. Please ask at the Bridge Street reception for the date of the next walk.

Each participant will have to sign a disclaimer and be able bodied enough to walk this far. Our walk leader is trained to lead a walk like this, however your safety remains your responsibility.

Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland CCGs support call for more awareness of dementia

Health bosses at Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are calling for more awareness of dementia to help those affected by the condition.

The call comes as part of Dementia Awareness Week, a week of national campaigning on the illness, which affects one in three people over 65.

Latest figures show just over 3000 people have been diagnosed with dementia in East Leicestershire and Rutland. Health experts anticipate this figure will rise by as much as 70 per cent in the coming years, with an ageing population in the region.

Advice for patients - Ransomware attack

A number of NHS organisations have been affected by a ransomware attack (an attack on the IT systems which support NHS services). This attack was not specifically targeted at the NHS but it has had an impact on NHS services.
